'CEPT THE RAIN - Poem

'Cept the Rain

(Copyright 2020, by Dave Kiffer)

There's two boys balling on the mudflat till the tide comes in

And a Ford at the dock, sitting quiet since 0-18

All the expiration dates have long since come and gone

At the end of the road, nothing happens, 'cept the rain

By eight pm, the house is quiet, everyone is 'so long'  gone

Except the echoes of everything that might have been

She pours a rum and coke, without the coke, again

At the end of the day, nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

At the end of the road,

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Two months gone by, dragging the ocean again

He's feeling the familiar waves of home

But there's no one at the dock as his ship comes in

At the end of the world, nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

At the end of of the road,

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

Nothing happens, 'cept the rain

At the end of your life

Nothing happens 'cept the rain
