A Rainforest Rondo - Poem

A Rainforest Rondo

(copyright 2020, by Dave Kiffer)

We have been walking this trail since I was a child
This circular mile through the forest along the lake
That, every time, takes us back to where we started

And those are the opening lines, the story started
Along the river that emptied into a deep lake
Where the breeze seemed to rise shyly like a child

To satisfy itself between arm-like branches, a child
Leading into a disheveled future, waves on a lake
Where the disarrangement always started

And we would be forced to recount steps started
Counterclockwise as round a fairy tale lake
To find the disobedient but lovely child

We have been walking this trail since I was a child
This circular mile through the forest along the lake
That, every time, takes us back to where we started
