MAYBE IT'S NOT THE TOWN YOU REMEMBER - Poem
MAYBE IT'S NOT THE TOWN YOU REMEMBER
(Copyright 2020, by Dave Kiffer)
Maybe it's not the town you remember,
The women's dress shop long swallowed
By a Big Box where one size doesn't fit all
There used to be sit down restaurants
But now everything is grab and go,
Parking more important than taste
The music store with a thousand records
Evolved into and endless soundtrack
In a brick in your front pocket
Once the boardwalks were filled
With faces as familiar as your own
Now the rare passersby rush past
You walked these streets as a child
Uncertain but calm in the embrace
Of the familiar sights and sounds
And now you stumble along again
Even less certain of the next step
With no hand, or fabric, to grab
Maybe it's not the town you remember
Even the mountains seem shorter now
But it's town that remembers you
