POTENTIAL - Poem

POTENTIAL

(Copyright 2020, by Dave Kiffer)

These days it seems to be a burden
A looking back at something wasted,
A sense that a gift was squandered
In the same way that time was allowed
To run off at the end of a football game
While everyone kneeled to not get hurt

But it doesn't need to be that way
Those final seconds can also bring out
A Hail Mary pass down the field
Instead of burying our eyes in the past
We can go deep into the future
And see the potential as yet to come
