SOCIAL DISTANCING - Poem

SOCIAL DISTANCING

(copyright 2020, by Dave Kiffer)

Once this would have been much harder,
There was a time when we sat together
Around a collected table piled with bread
And offered our thoughts together as bricks
In a wall of strength, not of this abject fear
Against that which we cannot see or touch.

But now it is easier to slide further into the
Girdled worlds at the tips of our fingers
We have been enclosed, cut off, distanced
For longer now, than we would care to admit
Media does not require masks, at least no more
Than the ones we have already been wearing.
