SKAGWAY - The borough assembly is requiring face coverings in all municipal facilities including the Skagway School when social distancing is not possible. The new rule does not require face coverings in private businesses or non-municipal buildings. THE SKAGWAY NEWS

Super could be censured
WRANGELL - The school board is considering censuring Superintendent Debbe Lancaster for chartering a plane and taking three other school district employees on a trip to Juneau to buy school supplies last month. Officials say the trip - which cost the district $6,200 - was in violation of the city of Wrangell's public employee travel ban. KSTK-FM
Hoppy Toads!!
KITIMAT - It's Hoppy Toad season! The time of the year when roads, trails and sidewalks in the community are covered with young Western Toads. The amphibians were "threatened" years ago, but are now plentiful as many residents leave out water bowls them to frolic in. THE NORTHERN SENTINEL
Covid restricts campus
WHITEHORSE - Access to the Whitehorse Campus of Yukon University has been restricted after two students returned to school from outside the region without undergoing the 14-day quarantine. The students are not showing any COVID 19 symptoms, but all other students and most employees must now study or work from home for at least two weeks. THE WHITEHORSE STAR
Copter rescues woman
SKAGWAY - A Coast Guard helicopter rescued a woman clinging to a grounded tree in the Taiya River last week. Officials say that two people in canoe hit a submerged tree and went into the water. Both were wearing PFDs. The man made it shore but the woman floated downstream until she could climb onto the tree and await rescue. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
Nisga'a limits visitors
PRINCE RUPERT - Travel to and from Nisga'a Nation land is being limited to essential travelers after a potential COVID 19 exposure at a large gathering. Attendees of the funeral, memorial and feast held Aug. 25 in honor of long time Nisga'a leader Dr. Joseph Gosnell have been ordered to self-isolate for the next 14 days. THE NORTHERN VIEW
Songwriter gets 'gpld'
JUNEAU - Former Juneau singer-songwriter Anna Graceman will have one of her songs become part of a new song promoting the 2020 Olympics next year in Tokyo. Graceman was one of two songwriters, whose works were picked by “Meant to Be” singer Bebe Rexha to create the song “Miracle” intended to be used to promote the 2020 Olympics. THE CAPITAL CITY WEEKLY
ODs rise
TERRACE - Emergency services are reported a continued dramatic rise in overdose calls. Officials say that thus far there have been 122 overdose cases in the community in 2020. The number for all of last year was 98. In 2016, there were 38. THE TERRACE STANDARD
Village loses mine fight
HAINES -The village of Klukwan and several environmental groups have lost a round in their fight against hard rock mine development in the Chilkat Valley. A federal appeals court last week affirmed a BLM decision that the agency doesn't have to consider the impacts of full-fledged mine development when considering permits for mineral exploration. Shelter reopens

New Park head
SKAGWAY - Angela Wetz is the new interim superintendent of the Klondike Goldrush National Historical Park. Wetz was previously the superintendent of the Fossil Butte National Monument in Kemmerer, Wyoming. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
Outbreak over?
HAIDA GWAII -Northern Health officials say the community COVID 19 outbreak on Haida Gwaii is over. The outbreak began on July 24 and affected 26 people. But no new cases have been reported since August 6. THE HAIDA GWAII OBSERVER
Death investigated
JUNEAU -Police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man at a construction site. They do not consider the death to be suspicious. Johnathan Hacko was found unconscious inside a forklift at a site on Sherwood Lane last week. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
