Heliskier investigated
HAINES
- A local heliskiing operation is being investigated for operating
illegally in Glacier Bay National Park backcountry last spring. The Park
Service says it received GPS information from the Haines Borough that

Salmon projects get grants
PRINCE
RUPERT -Twelve salmon conservation projects in the north have received
more than $160,000 in grants fro the Pacific Salmon Foundation. The
funding is earmarked for stock assessment, water temperature gauges,
lower Skeen watershed priortizing and clearing salmon passage

Bond vote scheduled
JUNEAU
- Voters will decide whether to approve more than $15 million in bonds
in the October election. The bonds would cover roads, parks and school

Trees illegally cut
TERRACE
- The city has fined several property owners for cutting trees on city
property to improve their views. The illegal cutting occurred in a

Carter new administrator
THORNE
BAY - Les Carter is the new Thorne Bay City Administrator. Carter is

Village needs more single housing
MASSETT
- The village has completed its Community Housing Needs Report and
while the area has a lot of housing, it doesn't have enough of the right
kind. The survey found plenty of multi-bedroom properties but that the
village needs more single person and retired person housing. THE HAIDA

Permits delay access road
PETERSBURG
- The Kake Access Road project is still expected to be complete by
October of next year, despite a delay in getting started. The delay was
caused by a delay in getting the appropriate permits from other state

Hall wins Derby
KITIMAT
- Maggie Hall is the winner of last week's 2020 Kitimat Fishing Derby.
Hall landed an 11 pound, 14 7/8 ounce coho salmon. THE KITIMAT NORTHERN

17 bears killed
HAINES
- As of last week, 17 bears have been killed by wildlife officials, 11
in the city annd 6 outside. Officials say that nearly all had been
acting aggressively toward people or property. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS
Anti ANWR opening rally
WHITEHORSE
- More than 70 people turned out for a lunch time rally opposing the
opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska for oil
exploration. Rally organizers say the exploration could harm the
Porcupine caribou herd which benefits Natives on both sides of the
Alaska/Canada border. THE WHITEHORSE STAR
Luhrs new Petersburg doctor
PETERSBURG
- Kayla Luhrs has been hired by the Petersburg Medical Center. Luhrs,
who graduated from the University of Washington Medical School, was born
and raised in Ketchikan and most recently practiced in Juneau. KFSK-FM

JUNEAU
- It was wet in the summer of 2020, but not the wettest. The Capital
City ended up with 23.27 inches, an inch short of the wettest summer,
back in 2014. It was the third wettest summer. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE

HAINES
- It was wetter than normal this summer in Haines. Officials say the 11
inches of rainfall received made it the third wettest summer on record.

Downtown redesign on tap
KITIMAT
- Residents will get a look later this month of a proposed new design
for downtown Kitimat. Officials have been working on the proposal for
two years. There will be a public unveiling on Sept. 23 at the
