WE WHO LIVE INTIMATELY WITH RAIN - Poem

WE WHO LIVE INTIMATELY WITH RAIN

(Copyright 2019, by Dave Kiffer)

In a much maligned poem.
A poem not so lovely as a tree,
Another line stands tall

It’s about trees, of course,
But it could really be us
‘Who intimately lives with rain’

We joke that we have gills
But it is not funny during
The relentless October wet

We celebrate baseball
In calf-high mud and muck
But still yearn for grass

We brag about our boots
Yet secretly wish for more
Days of sandals, flipflops

It is our calling card
A wet blanket, lovingly
Draped around us
