BOATMAN - Poem

BOATMAN

(Copyright 2017, by Dave Kiffer)

It is always dark
When I set out,
So much so
That I can
Never see
What waits ahead

I only know
The forecast
I have been
Given, handed
Like a slice
Of day-old bread

With a piece
Of rusty onion
To flavor the dark
Like an oil lamp
Punctuates
The night
