RETIREMENT - Poem

RETIREMENT

(Copyright 2017, by Dave Kiffer)

We say they are ‘at rest,’
Those that are gone before us
And yet we also say
‘They are watching over us’
And that every good thing
That befalls us is their
Intercession against
All the crueler fates.

My friend is busier now
In his retirement, than
He ever was at work,
He says Heaven must be
A place you get to sleep in,
But the work still goes on.
