Eagles skip eagle fest
HAINES
- The eagles also got the word that the annual bald eagle festival was
cancelled this year. Normally, several thousand eagles congregate along
the Chilkat River but this year officials say that the number of
returning eagles was 10 percent of normal. A record low chum salmon

Yukon mandates masks
WHITEHORSE
- Masks became mandatory in all indoor public spaces this week. Those
spaces included stores, community centers, hospitals, and service

Food bank low on funds
SKAGWAY
- The local food bank could run out of funds by March. Officials say
the foodbank received more government funding this year, but there has
also been a significantly greater need because of COVID issues have put
more local residents on unemployment. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
Live turkey at "shoot"
JUNEAU
- There was a different kind of turkey "shoot" at Juneau-Douglas High
School last week. Prior to Thanksgiving the school held a fundraiser in
which residents paid for the privilege of posing with a live turkey. THE

Hockey season cancelled
PRINCE RUPERT - The Central Interior Hockey League has cancelled its 2020-21 season because of the COVID pandemic.
The
CIHL hockey league includes the Prince Rupert Rampage, Terrace River
Kings and teams in Kitimat, Smithers, Hazelton, Williams Lake and

Rainfall damages dam
KLAWOCK
- Heavy rainfall caused damage to the Klawock Dam recently. Officials
say the recent damage is boosting efforts to replace the 80-year-old
structure near the Klawock/Hollis Highway but first the existing dam
must be repaired so that it will continue to function until funding can

House prices rise
WHITEHORSE
- The average house sale price has reached $570,000 in the Yukon
Territory, officials say. In 2019, the average sale price was $551,000.

WHALE
PASS - The results are in for the November municipal election. Brandon
Robinson, Caleb Toman, Tamera Weaver and Daryel Donaldson were all

2021 timber harvest cut
HAIDA
GWAII - Timber harvest in the islands in 2021 will be down slightly
than what was estimated last spring. The Province has decided to lower
the amount that was projected by the Haida Gwaii Managment Council in

Bus lands on house
JUNEAU
- A small bus went off the road at 18000 Glacier Highway on
Thanksgiving, struck a parked truck, went down an embankment and landed
on the roof of an unoccupied house. Police say the 32-year-old driver
did not appear impaired and apparently suffered a health issue. He was
not injured in the crash. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Stewart completes strategic plan
STEWART
- The District of Stewart has approved a 20-year strategic plan.
Officials say the plan focuses on steps to take to stabilize the
permanent population at between 1,000 and 2,000. Steps will also be
taken to improve the area mining and tourism industries. THE TERRACE

Kitimat cut off
KITIMAT
- The community was without internet for most of a day last week.
Officials say that a landslide 10 miles from the city cut off the fiber

Fire closes Hwy 16
TERRACE
- Highway 16 in Terrace was closed briefly last week when the engine of
a semi-truck caught fire. There were no injuries, and the fire was
confined to the engine compartment of the truck. THE TERRACE STANDARD
Residents donate to families
CRAIG
- Nearly $2,000 has been raised to help the families of two women who
died in a car crash on September 11. Kerri Hansen, 33, of Thorne Bay and
Jennifer Dietrick, 35, of Naukati were killed in the crash that also
