WHITEHORSE - An attempt to "rebrand" the half century old rendezvous
festival has unleashed the hounds of social media. The committee running
the Yukon Rendezvous Festival has dropped the word "Sourdough" from the
name and an online petition has already attracted

Assembly says all visitors must test or quarantine
SKAGWAY - All visitors to Skagway must either test for COVID 19 or
quarantine for seven days. The new rules were recently approved by the

Man charged for clinic threat
HAINES - A 55-year-old man who called the SEARHC clinic and threatened
to “shoot the place up and burn it to the ground” if he didn’t get an
appointment, has been given an appointment. With the local court system.
He has been charged with terroristic threatening

Seal Cove rehab begins
PRINCE RUPERT - A $4 million habitat restoration project has begun in
Seal Cove. The project, funded by the Prince Rupert Port Authority, will
remove waste and restore traditional vegetation to the site as well as
put in a walking path, pedestrian benches and

Housing complex under construction
PETERSBURG - Work began last week on an affordable housing complex on
Excel Street. Swell LLC hopes to begin renting units next January. THE

Town likes less pile driving
KITIMAT - Residents say they have been enjoying the relative peace and
quiet of the past few weeks. Previously the town had been ringing from
the constant pile driving at the LNG Canada project site, but provincial
officials have ordered a post-holiday, phased-in
return to construction at several major projects in British Columbia

Businesses join COVID program
SITKA - Eight local businesses have joined the COVID Conscious Business
Program which encourages COVID safe business practices. The businesses
are First National Bank of Alaska, Fortress of the Bear, Harry Race,
Checkered Tours, Sitka Tribe of Alaska, AMSEA,

Historic church burns
LAX KW'ALAAMS - The Grace United Church was destroyed by a fire last
week. The church was originally built in 1874 but burned in 1934 and
rebuilt. Church leaders say they will rebuild. Officials are

Vaccine rules tightened
WHITEHORSE - Officials say they are increasing the vaccine restrictions
at clinics in the Yukon after a wealthy couple from British Columbia was
found to have illegally gotten a COVID 19 vaccine at a small clinic in
Beaver Creek. The couple claimed to be living

Masks for hoopsters?
SKAGWAY - Home and away basketball games have been scheduled this month
between Skagway and Haines. The only detail unresolved is whether or not
both teams will be required to wear masks. The Skagway team currently
wears masks during practices and games while

WRANGELL - Nic Martin has plenty of experience cooking, especially on

Man dies in car wreck
PRINCE RUPERT - Local man Chris Mark, 31, was killed in a collision on
Highway 97 last week. Officials say that two vehicles collided head-on

Slide victims remembered
HAINES - Students at the Haines School have put up 1,500 colorful origami cranes in memory of Janae Larson and David
Simmons, who died in the Beach Road landslide in December. Larson was

- Kila Orion Hughes-Knowles, has been sworn in to preside as Magistrate
in Skagway, Hoonah, Yakutat and Haines. Hughes-Knowles is a 2006 Sitka
High graduate who to law
