FIRE AT SEA - Poem

FIRE AT SEA

(copyright 2013, by Dave Kiffer)

It is startlingly dry inside of a boat

You would think all that water

Swirling around outside would

Eventually seek its level inside

But that is not the case as we

Have spent thousands of years

Perfecting ways to keep it out

The same way we use the sea

Itself to keep out that which

We feel needs keeping out

Yet sometimes, we need heat

And the fire is too tempting

Even though we know that

Eventually the fire will burn

Away all our protection

From the sea
