SKAGWAY - Local railway employee Ryan Ellis gets a special joy in seeing all the memes of Bernie Sanders and his oversized mittens. The mittens were made by his older sister, Jen. Dogs caught in traps

HAINES - Three dogs have been caught in traps thus far this winter, local officials say. Normally, there is at least one dog/trap incident each year. They are encouraging residents to keep their dogs on leash unless they are on very well-traveled trails. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS

2020 borough budget in the black

WRANGELL - Borough officials say local government will end up 2020 slightly in the black and not the red as expected. Sales tax receipts were not as low as projected and the borough was able to apply some COVID funds to staff salaries and the final tally will show the community between $100,000 and $800,000 on the plus side. Former museum head gets velvet hammer penalty

HAINES - A former director of the Haines Hammer Museum has pled guilty to stealing more than $11,000 from the museum after he left it in 2019. Riyan Stossel agreed to a plea bargain in which he will serve 40 hours of community service and repay the money. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS

Vaccines open to all adults

SKAGWAY - The community is allowing anyone over the age of 18 to get COVID 19 vaccines. The SEARHC Clinic in Haines recently sent several hundred surplus doses to Skagway. THE SKAGWAY NEWS

Bus crashes at Twin Lakes
