and his oversized mittens. The mittens were made by his older sister,
Jen. He said his sister has received more than
18,000 requests for similar mittens since Sanders wore them to the

Dogs caught in traps
HAINES - Three dogs have been
caught in traps thus far this winter, local officials say. Normally,
there is at least one dog/trap incident each year. They are encouraging
residents to keep their dogs on leash unless they

2020 borough budget in the black
WRANGELL - Borough officials say
local government will end up 2020 slightly in the black and not the red
as expected. Sales tax receipts were not as low as projected and the
borough was able to apply some COVID funds to
staff salaries and the final tally will show the community between

Baseball and Softball says it expects a normal season of play this
summer. Baseball and softball leagues were cancelled last summer, but
now officials say they expect play to begin in late April

Former museum head gets velvet hammer penalty
HAINES - A former director of the
Haines Hammer Museum has pled guilty to stealing more than $11,000 from
the museum after he left it in 2019. Riyan Stossel agreed to a plea
bargain in which he will serve 40 hours of community

Fire destroys Scow Bay home
PETERSBURG - A family of three is
homeless after a fire destroyed their Scow Bay Loop home last week.
Officials believe the fire started in the attached garage. THE

Vaccines open to all adults
SKAGWAY - The community is
allowing anyone over the age of 18 to get COVID 19 vaccines. The SEARHC
Clinic in Haines recently sent several hundred surplus doses to Skagway.

SITKA - The Sitka High Drama,
Debate and Forensics team had a successful time at the recent state
championships. Competing in the Division II group, Sitka was the Drama
State Champion, Forensics State Champion and Overall

JUNEAU - Local officials say that
despite a lapse in the statewide COVID requirements, the city and
borough is maintaining its mitigation requirements including airport
testing, strict social distancing requirements after

New Medical Center opens
WRANGELL - The new $30 million
Wrangell Medical Center is now fully operational. Emergency services
moved in last Friday and long-term care moved in last Sunday. THE

One third of town vaccinated
PETERSBURG - Petersburg Medical
Center officials say that nearly one third of the town residents have
received at least the first dose of the COVID 19 vaccine. More than
1,100 vaccines had been received as of early last

Bus crashes at Twin Lakes
JUNEAU - A borough bus crash near
Twin Lakes last week was possibly caused by a mechanical failure,
according to police. There were no injuries to the driver or four
