WALLS - Poem

WALLS

(Copyright 2017, by Dave Kiffer)

When you look at a castle

All you see is the gray walls,

The parapets shooting up

Like blooms of serrated rock,

Perpendicular into the soft

Underbelly of the sky

There is nothing safer,

Or so it seems when you

Ponder a castle rising

From the surrounding

Countryside like a giant

Fortified womb come true

It is only after fleeing inside

That you realize the walls

Are an impenetrable tomb,

And that rather than safety

The final result is a withering,

Inevitable, recession, into death
