Manager search drones on
HAINES - The borough assembly has to start over at square one in its
search for a new manager, the fifth one in the past decade. The assembly
chose a man from back east, who then said it would cost too much to
move. Now, the second finalist, acting manager
Alekka Fullerton, the borough clerk, says she is no longer interested in

Skiers trigger avalanche
SITKA - A group of skiers triggered a large avalanche on Mt. Edgecumbe
last week. Officials say that one of the skiers was buried but was very
lucky that the other skiers quickly found him and dug him out. He was

COVID spike peaks
TERRACE - Health officials say the recent spike in COVID 19 cases
appears to have peaked. Only 14 cases were reported last week, as
opposed to nearly 30 in the previous week, Cases remain high in Prince

COVID outbreak eases
PETERSBURG - Officials say the COVID 19 case count is at its lowest
point since early February when a spike sickened more than 60 residents.

TERRACE - Fire officials believe an electrical short started an
overnight fire at the Keith Avenue Tim Hortons last week. They say the

New city hall may be delayed
WHITEHORSE - A new city hall is being discussed by the city council, but
councilors expressed concern last week that it might not be a good time
to build. Councilors heard a report that the city hall work was pegged
at $20 million last fall, but now will cost

Council may support new terminal
HAINES - The borough assembly will consider a resolution in support a
new ferry terminal north of Juneau. Officials say that new terminal in
Berners Bay will shorten the ferry travel time to upper Lynn Canal and
could improve service in uncertain times for

Chugach Ranger in new home
WRANGELL - The Chugach Ranger, the last wooden boat to be in the Forest
Service fleet, has been moved to what officials hope it its last home,
adjacent to the Nolan Center. The 96-year-old boat is be rehabbed and

Vice President's jet visits
JUNEAU - Residents thought a VIP was visiting town when a 757 with
"United States of America" livery spent 17 hours at the airport. But,
officials say the plane - which normally flies the Vice President - was
in town for a training flight and the vice president

Store roof collapses
WHITEHORSE -No one was injured when a 2,500 square foot roof section of
the Riverdale Super A Foods Building collapsed last week. Customers and
staff heard the roof creaking around 9 am and evacuated the store before
