WRANGELL
- Authorities are reporting 16 COVID cases in the past week. They say
the cases appear to be community spread. A mask mandate has been put in

Company gets timber contract
HAINES
- An Oregon company has received won a contract to cut the 1,000-acre
Baby Brown timber tract north of Haines. NWFP Inc, bid more than
$423,000 for the state timber lands contract under which work could as

Airport to reopen
PRINCE
RUPERT - The Prince Rupert Regional Airport on Digby Island will reopen
by June 1. Officials say that Air Canada has reached an agreement with
the Canadian government to resume service to the airports in Prince

- After nearly a quarter century of tending to Little Norway's public
grounds, Jesse O'Connor is retiring. He plans to return to where he grew

- Oldtimers are fondly remembering the 1959 visit of Queen Elizabeth II
and Prince Philip when the couple met with residents and rode the White

Mounties honored
TERRACE
- Three members of the Terrace RCMP detachment have been honored for
their bravery in two recent incidents. Constables Dean Perrin and Matt
Sullivan were given citations for how they handled a confrontation with
an armed suspect in April of last year and Corporal Joshua Smith was
honored for rescuing an injured person during a propane explosion in

Dyea cabin controversial
SKAGWAY
- A newly built cabin in the Dyea campground is causing concern from
some in the community that it competes with a nearby commercial
operations. The municipality had planned to rent the bare bones cabin
for $50 a night to help pay off the construction costs, but that number
does undercut the commercial Chilkoot Trail Outpost which rents

Old Skeena site is new LPG facility
PRINCE
RUPERT - Pembina has sent out the first shipload of liquid petroleum
gas from its new Watson Island facility. The LPG plant is on the site of
the former Skeena Cellulose pulp mill that had been closed for more

Legislator breaks ground
WHITEHORSE
- Yvonne Clark is the first person of Filipino heritage to be elected
to the Yukon Parliament. Clark will represent Porter Creek Centre in the

Officer not faulted for taser use
GITLAXT'AAMIKS
- A provincial investigator has determined an RCMP officer who used a
taser to try to stop a man from cutting his own throat is not at fault
for the man's death. The incident happened last October after the man
had had already severely injured family members before the police

Northern Lynn Canal king fishery cancelled
HAINES
- Sport fishing for king salmon north of Seduction Point will not take
place for the fifth year in a row. Fish and Game is expecting the 2021
return to be well below the needed escapement level of 1,750 salmon. THE

- The 12th Annual North Words Writers Symposium is moving to the first
week in September. The Symposium is usually held around Memorial Day.

- The average price of a home in Terrace topped $400,000 in 2020. The
