INDEPENDENCE DAY - Poem

INDEPENDENCE DAY

We shoot these colors,
Maniacally, into the sky,
Crackling talismans
To light the path
And shield our steps,
To send our demons
Running headlong
Across the night.

But eventually
The embers fade,
The echoing thunder
Rumbles down,
The darkness lives on,
Until dawn.
