PRINCE RUPERT - If you think time moves too slowly, head over to
Northwest BC, where an increase in electrical power coming from area
mines has boosted the hertz level .5 percent. That means that area
clocks are running 18 seconds an hour faster, at least for

Getting their money's worth
PETERSBURG - The Crystal Lake hydro generator needs $9 million in
repairs. The generator, which was built in the 1920s, was last updated

JUNEAU - Cathy Mendoza is bringing joy to the streets of Juneau. In
June, Mendoza began operating the first ice cream truck in the community

New library under construction
THORNE BAY - Thorne Bay's new library building is under construction. In
Auburn, Washington! It has taken a decade to come up with the funds for
the project. The 1,300 square foot modular building will replace the
900 square foot trailer that was once a school

Song about 'Golden Spruce'
HAIDA GWAII - Smithers singer-songwriter Mark Perry is releasing a new
album of music soon. The first single is called "Golden Spruce" and
relates the story of a 300-year-old sacred spruce that was felled on

Strike authorized
KITIMAT - The community is bracing for a potential strike this weekend
at the Kitimat aluminum smelter. Unifor Local 2301 workers have

King derby starts
CRAIG - The Craig-Klawock King Salmon derby is underway and will

Drip, drip, drip
WRANGELL - The Borough needs to step up the pace on a new water
filtration plant or risk losing $9 million in federal funding. That
funding was approved back in 2017 when the facility cost was estimated
at more than $10 million. But now officials say they need

TERRACE - Local teen softball teams are the talk of the Province. At the
recent provincial championships, the U12 team won the silver medal

Family market sold to chain
HAINES - The Fairbanks family, which has operated the Fairway IGA Market
in town since 1958, has sold its operation to the Alaska Commercial
Company. The handover will be August 1. KHNS-HAINES
Young remembered
CRAIG - There will be funeral and memorial services on July 30-31 for
Marge Young, the grand dame of Craig. Young passed away in March of

Ferry visits cut
HAINES - The community will get a single ferry visit each week in
January and February under the proposed winter state ferry schedule.
Normally, Haines gets three to four ferries each week. THE CHILKAT

Juneau bids for Iron Man
JUNEAU - The Capital City hopes to host an official "Iron Man Triathlon"
next year. If the community bid is successful, officials estimate that
1,500 athletes will come to the community for the event. THE JUNEAU

'Big Bill' sails on
WRANGELL - Residents are remembering lifelong resident "Big Bill"
Churchill who died last week at 88. Churchill was a tugboat captain for
many years, known for singing and playing harmonica in the wheelhouse.
He was also a teacher of Native carving throughout
