- Annette Kreitzer is the lone candidate standing for borough manager.
The other finalist, John Mullen of Pasco, WA dropped out last week.
Kreitzer served as state Administration Commissioner for Governor Palin
and was also chief of staff for Lt. Gov. Loren Leman earlier. She and
her husband have owned property in Haines for more than 20 years. THE

COVID reports assessed
PETERSBURG
- The borough assembly is evaluating how information was released
regarding a recent COVID 19 outbreak that was tied to a visit by the
American Constellation cruise ship. Officials say the recent disbanding
of the local EOC meant that information was not as readily available as

Container ships can plug in
PRINCE
RUPERT - The Port Authority is moving ahead with a project that will
allow container ships to shut down their engines and plug into local
hydro power while in port. The project should be operational by the

Homeless shelter reopens
JUNEAU
- The community homeless shelter has reopened in the Mendenhall Valley,
on Teal Street. The Glory Hall was formerly located in Downtown Juneau.

CG auxiliary hopes to expand

- Liz Buness is the sole member of the local US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
But regional officials recently visited the community and are hoping to
set up a full local detatchment in the near future. THE WRANGELL

- A man reported that a bear had come out of the woods near the Trooper
Academy and made eye contact with him and headed back into the woods.

Local server to serve on Assembly
SKAGWAY
- Local bartender Deb Potter has been named to replace Steve Burnham on
the Borough Assembly. Potter will "serve" until the October election.

Town still abandoned
KITSAULT
- Despite several attempts to reopen a nearby molybdenum mine, the town
of Kitsault, some 60 miles from Terrace, remains abandoned and looking
just like it did when the residents all left in 1983. For the past
decade, the town property has been owned by an Indian entrepreneur who
wants to make it a "campus" for scientists. THE TERRACE STANDARD
Veterans pole raised

Paddle Battle raises $1,500
PETERSBURG
- More than 20 paddlers took to the waters of Scow Bay in the annual
"Paddle Battle" last week. The event raised more than $1,500 for the

Sawmill property to be subdivided
WRANGELL
- The owner of the former sawmill property at Mile 6 of the Zimovia
Highway is hoping to subdivide 32 acres of the property into individual
industrial lots. The proposal would create 24 lots ranging from a third

Family receives historic bible
SITKA
- More than 20 members of the Price family visited the community last
week to receive a historic bible that had been donated by the family to
the Presbyterian Church several decades ago. The bible found was found
as the former church building was being remodeled for a housing

Cummings retires from First Bank
PETERSBURG
- Joyce Cummings is retiring after 30 years at the First Bank
Petersburg branch. Cummings joined the branch as a loan secretary in
1985 and has been branch manager since 2012. THE PETERSBURG PILOT
Grandma rides herd
SITKA
- Animal control investigated a report of two dogs running loose on the
Sheldon Jackson Campus. A woman, who described the dogs as her "grand
