Island festival on tap

PETERSBURG - Officials with the Petersburg Medical Center met with SEARHC officials recently to discuss the future of healthcare in the community. New manager hired

HAINES - The long running soap opera over the hiring of a new Borough Manager appears to finally be over. Annette Kreitzer, a former Alaska administration commissioner, and the Borough Assembly reportedly have reached a contract agreement. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS

Fire department taxed

KITIMAT - The Kitimat Ambulance and Fire Department says it is overwhelmed. Officials say that a 57 percent increase in calls over last year is stretching the department thin. Group gets language grant

Traveler testing back on

Fleet honors late captain

FAA cleanup to cost $5M

Local Crime Stoppers shuts down

TERRACE - Terrace-Kitimat Crime Stoppers has closed down and operations will be shifted to the Prince George operations. Local officials say a chronic lack of volunteers spelled the end of operations that had been ongoing since the early 1990s. THE TERRACE STANDARD

Longtime local dies

COFFMAN COVE - Residents are remembering 40-year resident Clay Smalley, who died recently. Smalley worked for many years in the timber industry and operated Whale Welding. He was also a member of the Coffman Cove rescue team. THE PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND POST
