- The long running soap opera over the hiring of a new Borough Manager
appears to finally be over. Annette Kreitzer, a former Alaska
administration commissioner, and the
Borough Assembly reportedly have reached a contract agreement. THE

Fire department taxed
KITIMAT - The Kitimat Ambulance and Fire Department says it is
overwhelmed. Officials say that a 57 percent increase in calls over last
year is stretching the department thin. Daily calls have increased from
less than 10 to more than 15 meaning that responders

Fun, fun, fun
SITKA - Several downtown city streets will likely become one-way streets
next summer as the community copes with detours from a major state road
project during the summer. The state plans to shut down large portions
of Sawmill Creek Road beginning in 2022.

Group gets language grant
HYDABURG - The Xaadas Kil Kuyaas Foundation has received a $75,000 grant
from Sealaska. The grant will be used to perpetuate the Haida language.

Traveler testing back on
WRANGELL - The Borough is once again requiring unvaccinated travelers -
locals and visitors - who arrive from out of state to get tested for
COVID 19. The requirement had expired in June but will now be in place

Fleet honors late captain
PRINCE RUPERT - More than 30 boats lined up in the harbor recently to
honor tugboat captain Troy Pearson. Pearson died when his tug sank on

FAA cleanup to cost $5M
PETERSBURG - The Federal Aviation Administration says it will cost $5
million to clean up waste left on Big Level Island. Big Level Island was

Local Crime Stoppers shuts down
TERRACE - Terrace-Kitimat Crime Stoppers has closed down and operations
will be shifted to the Prince George operations. Local officials say a
chronic lack of volunteers spelled the end of operations that had been

Longtime local dies
COFFMAN COVE - Residents are remembering 40-year resident Clay Smalley,
who died recently. Smalley worked for many years in the timber industry
and operated Whale Welding. He was also a member of the Coffman Cove
