Senior facility under construction
JUNEAU - Ground was broken recently on the
Riverview Senior Living Facility. The $32 million project, a joint
development between the city and Torrey Pines Development, is expected

Shareholders get cash for vaccines
KLUKWAN - Klukwan, Inc.
shareholders are eligible to receive $225 each for showing proof of
receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Officials say the money is coming from a

Vape flavors may be limited
PRINCE RUPERT - A proposed
federal ban on most vape flavorings will hurt customers and business
says the owner of Coastal Vape Company. The rules would limit flavors to
tobacco, mint, menthol and mint/menthol. It would

Bertagnoli retires
PETERSBURG - Joe Bertagnoli
has retired after 30 years of working for local government. Most

SITKA - While the local property tax rate did not change last year,
the overall assessments went up around $400,000. Overall, the value of

HAIDA GWAII - The BC Forests Practices Board says it will audit a
large central Graham Island tree farm. The farm is operated by TAAN

Weiss honored nationally
JUNEAU - Time magazine has named School Superintendent Bridget
Weiss as one of the 29 educators and school staff nationwide for their

PRINCE RUPERT - It was not a surprise that Lakhwinder Jhaj, the
national Liberal Party candidate for the Skeena-Buckley Valley district
did not set foot in the district until a just a couple days before the
national election. Parties often put non-residents
on the ballot, particularly in districts where they are not expected to
do well. Pre-election polls gave the New Democratic Party candidate,
incumbent Taylor Bachrach, a 99 percent chance of being re-elected. THE

Rosemaling Rocks!
PETERSBURG - The Muskeg Maleriers recently celebrated National
Rosemaling Day at the Sons of Norway Hall. More than 40 people
celebrated the Norwegian art of painting floral designs on furniture and

Mountain biker rescued
TERRACE - The Terrace Search and Rescue team air rescued an injured
mountain biker from Terrace Mountain after an accident last week.
Because of the location, the unnamed biker was lifted out by a

Plane crash remembered
JUNEAU - For retired local National Guardsman Charlie Smith
September 4, 1971 will never be forgotten. He was one of the local
national guardsmen who responded to the crash of Alaska Airlines Flight
1866, which plowed in the mountains on its way to Juneau,

Vaccine passports sought
PRINCE RUPERT - Residents have been lining up at the local BC
Service Center in order to get their vaccine passports. Although the
passports can be acquired on-line there have been numerous reports of
