One contested Assembly race
WRANGELL
- Two three-year borough assembly seats and one one-year seat are up
for grabs in the Oct. 5 election. Dave Powell and
Don McConachie Sr., are vying for the one-year term. Bob Dalrymple and
Jim DeBord are unopposed for the two three-year terms. THE WRANGELL

COFFMAN COVE - Things are a little confusing in Coffman Cove as all
three incumbents are seeking re-election but not necessarily to the same
seats. Incumbent Mikael Ashe and Perry Olson are both seeking Seat C.
Joel Buchanon and Dawn Rosenlund are seeking Seat
D which is currently held by Yvonne Drozdowicz-Shultz who is challenging
incumbent Brian Wilson for Seat E. Janie Wainscott is also seeking Seat

PETERSBURG - Eight people
are running for two seats on the borough assembly. Dana Thynes, Marc
Martinsen, Tom Fine-Walsh, Lars Christensen, Bob Lynn, Brandi Thynes,
Paul Anderson and Jim Vick are on the ballot.

Mayor faces challenge
CRAIG - Mayor Tim O'Connor
is facing a challenge from Chaundell Piburn. Jim See is unopposed for
Seat C. Hannah Bazinet and Trampas Conatser are vying for Seat D. THE

Mayor unopposed
JUNEAU - Beth Weldon is
running unopposed as the city and borough mayor. Barbara Blake, Paul
Kelly and Troy Wuyts-Smith are seeking the District One assembly seat.
Michelle Bonnet Hale and Kelly Fishler are seeking
the District Two seat. Residents will be asked whether to extend three
one percent sales taxes that have been in place for several years. One
tax is for police, fire and other city services. One is for road
maintenance and smaller projects and one is for larger

SITKA - David Miller,
Rachel Moreno and Kevin Mosher are vying for two seats on the borough
assembly. Residents will be asked if they want to sell the former Sitka

COVID causes patient move
KITIMAT
- A Smithers woman who was seriously injured in a car crash was moved
to the Kitimat hospital last week because the Smithers hospital needed
beds for a rise in seriously ill COVID
patients and her husband is not happy. Don Goalder says that Cathy
Whalen had to be taken by ambulance to the airport, flown to Kitimat and
then be taken by another ambulance to the new hospital, all while in

Rain causes flooding
PRINCE
RUPERT - Heavier than normal rain has caused significant flooding in
the community. In a normal September, Prince Rupert gets eight inches of
rain, but through three weeks, the community

Boil water advisory
KITIMAT
- The District has issued a "boil water advisory" because of
higher-than-normal turbidity levels in the Kitimat River. People with
weakened immune systems should boil their drinking

Ferries delayed
HAIDA
GWAII - Rough weather in Hecate Strait has been causing BC ferry delays
for the past week. Ferries have been running between the mainland and

COVID cases spike
SMITHERS
- COVID cases in the northwest are on the rise and Smithers has the
highest number. More than 200 new cases have been reported in the past
