Mulvihill dies
SKAGWAY - Residents are remembering life-long resident Carl Mulvihill who died earlier this month at 85. Mulvihill worked for the railroad, was an unofficial town historian and photographer, and served as the fire chief for 31 years. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
'Safe Place' program established
KITIMAT - The local RCMP is starting a "Safe Place" program for members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. Businesses and other locations will have "Safe Place" decals in their windows where someone can go if they are a victim of a hate crime until police arrive. THE KITIMAT NORTHERN SENTINEL
New bank branch opens
HAINES - The community will have two financial institutions shortly. First National Bank has been in the community since 1962, but now Tongass Federal Credit Union of Ketchikan plans to open a branch on Second Avenue. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS
Senior center reopens
TERRACE - After being closed for more than 18 months, the Happy Gang Centre has reopened. The centre provides meals, games and social activities for senior citizens. THE TERRACE STANDARD
City seeks visitor management help
SITKA - The city is looking for proposals from private contractors to provide visitor industry services next summer. Areas the city is looking for help in include traffic control and portable restrooms for the potential 480,000 visitors who could arrive. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINEL

SMITHERS - A break-in has been discovered at Smithers Senior Secondary. Officials say that thieves ransacked a supply room containing costumes and costume jewelry that was stored for the drama department. THE SMITHERS INTERIOR NEWS
Borough gives historic house back
SKAGWAY - A decade ago, the Rasmuson Foundation gave the community more than 30,000 gold rush era items including the history Rapunzi House. Last week, the Borough Assembly decided to give the house back to the Foundation because it doesn't have the estimated $2 million it will take to renovate the building. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
COVID cases dropping
TERRACE - The city continues to lead Northwest BC in COVID cases, but the number is dropping. Last week, there were 61 new cases as opposed to the average of 80 in the proceeding weeks. THE TERRACE STANDARD

MCDougall awarded for bravery
WHITEHORSE - Scott McDougall has been given the Commissioner's Award for Bravery by the Yukon Government. McDougall rescued a man who was drowing in the Yukon River last July. THE WHITEHORSE DAILY STAR
Mounties heading north
TERRACE - RCMP vacancies in northern British Columbia may be filled soon with officers from southern British Columbia. The 800-person Surrey detachment - the largest in Canada - is being significantly reduced because Surrey is planning to have its own police department. THE TERRACE STANDARD

SITKA - A man reported he had loaned out his fishing boat while he was out of town and had returned to find the boat missing. Police found it had been taken to Petersburg. The boat owner was advised of his options. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINEL
Another COVID death announced
WHITEHORSE - Yukon health officials say that a 12th person has died of COVID in the territory. The death was reported last week. The first Yukon COVID death was recorded in October of 2020. THE WHITEHORSE DAILY STAR
