Paper officials say that they have had trouble finding delivery people for areas in the community and the mail distribution will begin later this month. This month they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family members in SItka. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINEL:Health Center damaged by snowYAKUTAT - Officials say it will likely cost "millions of dollars" to repair the recently opened Community Health Center. The center was heavily damaged when more than six feet of snow fell in a storm in early Januiary. KCAW-SITKAGyms reopenPRINCE RUPERT - Gyms and fitness centers have reopened for the first time since last year. The closure was part of the province-wide COVID restrictions. Residents are being reminded to look after their roofs as more snow is in the forecast. KHNS-HAINESMovie about plane disappearanceWHITEHORSE - On Jan,. 26, 1950 a fully loaded C-54 Skymaster -with 44 people on board - left Anchorage for a flight to the Lower 48 with a first stop in the Yukon. It never arrived and has become one of only four large aircraft that have completely disappeared in the North Country. Now a movie about the disappearance, Skymaster Down, is set be screened locally on February 4. THE WHITEHORSE DAILY STARTown jolted by quakeSITKA - A small earthquake jolted the community last week. The temblor registered 4.6 and was located 49 miles northwest of the city. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINELA Good choiceWRANGELL - Interim borough manager Jeff Good has been offered the full-time gig. Good - who was named interim in November - was one of three finalists for the permanent position. KSTK - WRANGELLMask mandates stay in placeJUNEAU - The borough assembly says that COVID mitigation strategies - including mask mandates - will remain in place until March 30. The assembly voted unanimously to extend them past the original March 1 deadline. THE JUNEAU EMPIREHarbor plannedPETERSBURG - The borough is moving ahead with plans to develop new harbor in Scow Bay, two miles south of town. The plan is use federal infrastructure dollars to finance the harbor. KFSK-PETERSBURGNo vax reportsTERRACE-Coast Mountain School District 82 is not asking staff for vaccination status, yet. The Province announced in mid-January that regional health ministers would have the power to require school districts to "collect" status info, but Northern Health has yet to do so, school officials say. THE TERRACE STANDARDNewStreet closure plan pausedSITKA - Assembly members aren't quite sure they want to close Lincoln Street to vehicle traffic during heavy cruise ship days this summer.
