Paper to be delivered by mail
JUNEAU - About a third of the Juneau Empire's circulation will now be handled by the US Post Office. Paper officials say that they have had trouble finding delivery people for areas in the community and the mail distribution will begin later this month. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Couple celebrates 70th anniversary
SITKA - Vaughn and Marian Blankenship were married in Seattle on Jan. 12, 1952. This month they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family members in SItka. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINEL:
Health Center damaged by snow
YAKUTAT - Officials say it will likely cost "millions of dollars" to repair the recently opened Community Health Center. The center was heavily damaged when more than six feet of snow fell in a storm in early Januiary. KCAW-SITKA
 Gyms reopen

Geothermal energy to be studied
TERRACE - The province is kicking in $500,000 to support efforts to study the possibility of geothermal energy production near Terrace. The Lakelse Lake area has several hot springs. THE TERRACE STANDARD
Snow collapses buildings
JUNEAU - At least two large buildings have collapsed in the last couple of weeks because of heavy snowfall. Residents are being reminded to look after their roofs as more snow is in the forecast. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Community cut off
SKAGWAY - The community was completely cut off from the outside world for several days earlier this month.Snow drifst closed the Klondike Highway, small planes were grounded by weather and state ferry service remains shut down until February. KHNS-HAINES
Movie about plane disappearance
WHITEHORSE - On Jan,. 26, 1950 a fully loaded C-54 Skymaster -with 44 people on board - left Anchorage for a flight to the Lower 48 with a first stop in the Yukon. It never arrived and has become one of only four large aircraft that have completely disappeared in the North Country. Now a movie about the disappearance, Skymaster Down, is set be screened locally on February 4. THE WHITEHORSE DAILY STAR
Town jolted by quake

A Good choice
WRANGELL - Interim borough manager Jeff Good has been offered the full-time gig. Good - who was named interim in November - was one of three finalists for the permanent position. KSTK - WRANGELL
Mask mandates stay in place
JUNEAU - The borough assembly says that COVID mitigation strategies - including mask mandates - will remain in place until March 30. The assembly voted unanimously to extend them past the original March 1 deadline. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Harbor planned
PETERSBURG - The borough is moving ahead with plans to develop new harbor in Scow Bay, two miles south of town. The plan is use federal infrastructure dollars to finance the harbor. KFSK-PETERSBURG
No vax reports
TERRACE-Coast Mountain School District 82 is not asking staff for vaccination status, yet. The Province announced in mid-January that regional health ministers would have the power to require school districts to "collect" status info, but Northern Health has yet to do so, school officials say. Street closure plan paused
SITKA - Assembly members aren't quite sure they want to close Lincoln Street to vehicle traffic during heavy cruise ship days this summer. Borough staff has proposed the closure, but assembly members want to hear more public comment first. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINEL
