Booster shots lagging
PRINCE
RUPERT - Health officials say that more than 90 new cases of COVID were
recorded in the community last week. They say that the good thing is
that they are leading to few hospitalizations, but the bad news is that
residents are not getting the vaccine booster shots in high enough

Man convicted of murder
YAKUTAT - A Juneau jury has convicted of John Stapleton, 50, of the second-degree murder of John Fergerson, 61, in October of 2018. Fergerson was stabbed to death. Prosecutors had sought a first-degree murder conviction. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE

funding to set up electric vehicle charging stations in the community.

Golf course sold, future unclear
HAINES
- Stan Jones has sold the Valley of the Eagles Golf Course to a man
from California and another man from Haines. Jones - who built the
course in 2003 - says it will stay open for 2022,
but that it's not clear if the new owners plan to continue the course

Longtime local official dies
WHITEHORSE - Residents are remembering former city manager Linda Rapp who died last week. Rapp had retired on January 1 after spending 36 years with the city in a variety of positions. THE WHITEHORSE DAILY STAR
New fire chief tabbed
PRINCE RUPERT - Jeff Beckwith has been named the chief of Prince Rupert Fire Rescue. Beckwith will be in charge of 20 firefighters and seven dispatchers and has been with the department for 23 years. THE PRINCE RUPERT NORTHERN VIEW
Recall request denied
SITKA
- The city clerk has turned down a second request to begin the recall
process against assemblymember Thor Christiansen. Christiansen has been
accused of being rude to people expressing anti-mask sentiments at
emergency operations center meetings, but Clerk Sara Peterson says that
Christiansen's comments and gestures are protected political speech and

Derelict boat still an issue
PORT
EDWARD - Officials are eyeing a derelict ship that has been abandoned
in Porpoise Harbor for more than a decade. A second vessel, the Scotch
Cap, is currently being dismantled but no plans have been made for the

Teens arrested in liquor store heist

- Two teenagers were arrested last week after a break-in at Big Jim's
Spirits Store. Pollice saw the two people running away from the liquor

- The Bartlett Regional Hospital is going through an active leadership
period. After the longtime CEO retired two years ago, there have been
two temporary CEOs in charge and one permanent one who resigned after
six months. A new CFO has just been hired and a new chief clinical

Woman shot
NEW
HAZELTON - The RCMP says that a woman was shot during a home invasion
last week. They said her injuries were non-life-threatening. THE

- Hammer and Wikan Grocery is installing four self-checkout stands. The
new stands will replace registers number two and three in the store.
