Longtime teacher dies
PETERSBURG - Lifelong resident Roy Otness died last month at the age of 93. Otness was a fisherman and a cook, but most notably taught elementary and middle school for 30 years. THE PETERSBURG PILOT
A bus to doggie daycare!
SKAGWAY - A local "dog bus" is capturing a lot of internet attention these days. Mo Thompson's "Mo Mountain Mutts" collects about nine local dogs each and takes them out for exercise and socialization. Videos of the dogs and their bus have gone viral. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
Cafe featured in doc
PRINCE RUPERT - The 104-year-old West End Cafe is being featured in a national documentary about Chinese Canadians and the infamous 1923 Immigration Act that excluded Chinese immigrants coming to Canada. The Cafe was founded in 1918 by Wong Cam Sun. THE PRINCE RUPERT NORTHERN VIEW

Bike relay cancelled, again

Harbor fees rise

Sewer repairs needed
TERRACE - The city will have to spend more than $1 million to repair a sewer pipe near the Skeena River. The pipe was damaged during a large flood in June of 2021. THE TERRACE STANDARD
Borough purchases sawmill property
WRANGELL - The borough has purchased the former sawmill property at 6-Mile Zimovia Highway for $2.5 million. The 38-acre property was owned by Betty Buhler. THE WRANGELL SENTINEL
On the road
SKAGWAY - Adalia Deach and Tatum Sager recently returned from a trip to New York City. But not as tourists. The two music students were chosen to perform in a national honor choir at Carnegie Hall. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
Gymnast wins provincial medal
PRINCE RUPERT - Local gymnast Cambrie Bosco, 11, recently won a silver medal at the Province-wide championships in Langley. Briscoe finished second in the uneven bars competition at the Christy Fraser Memorial Invitational which replaced the BC Winter Games this year. THE PRINCE RUPERT NORTHERN VIEW
Lot dump to be cleared
WRANGELL - The Forest Service plans to clean up the parking lot at Roosevelt Harbor on Zarembo Island. The USFS will spend $175,000 to remove about 70 vehicles that have been left at the lot, which is the access point to miles of logging roads on the island that are used each year by hunters. HAINES - Lilly Ford's puppy Sacha found a lost wallet belonging to Rebecca Brewer in February in a snowberm in Chilkat Inlet. The wallet was made out of salmon skin. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS
Train engineer dies
SKAGWAY - Daniel Law died last month at the age of 73. Law was a brakeman, conductor and engineer on the White Pass Railway for more than 30 years. THE SKAGWAY NEWS
Oui, oui!
KITIMAT - The Association des Francophones et Francophiles du Nord-Ouest had a successful Franco-Fun Festival last month. One hundred tickets were sold for the event last month at the Hirsch Creek Golf Club. THE KITIMAT NORTHERN SENTINEL
