Longtime school board member dies

– Residents are remembering lifelong resident Patti Ohmer Norheim, who
died last month at the age of 95. She was a school board member for
nearly 30 years and also served on the State Board of Education. THE

Transit grant on the way

Nearby shots close school

- A 38-year-old woman has been charged with weapons violations after a
report of shots being fired in the vicinity of Thunder Mountain High
School last week. The school was briefly locked down during the
incident. It was later determined the shots were fired on the nearby

Wild chase on Hwy 16
PRINCE
RUPERT - A 31-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly leading
the Mounties on a high-speed chase on Hwy 16. Officers say the driver
evaded capture three times and also knocked down a highway lamp pole.
They said his blood alcohol was twice the legal limit. THE PRINCE RUPERT

- The borough assembly recently approved several increases for
services. Harbor moorage went up 8.3 percent, electricity 4 four
percent, water 5 percent, wastewater 8 percent and solid waste 7.5

- Local musician Alex Cuba can now add "Grammy Winner" to his resume.
Cuba won the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album with his recording "Mendo."

Assembly condemns invasion
JUNEAU
- The borough assembly last week narrowly voted against suspending its
Sister City status with Vladivostok in the Russian Far East. The
proposal, which was in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, failed
on a 5-4 vote, but the assembly unanimously approved a resolution

Woman, dog survive crash
PETERSBURG
- A woman and her dog were uninjured when their truck went off the road
and crashed into a group of trees near the Scow Bay Loop Road. Police
said the woman had been unable to stop her truck but managed to steer it

Bridge project ahead of schedule
KITIMAT
- Work on the replacement Haisla Bridge remains ahead of schedule,
according to contractor Collings Johnston Inc. Work began in June of
