Remains found, project delayed
HAINES - Work on a section of the Haines Highway project has been halted after the discovery of possible human remains. Officials say they are consulting with local tribes on the situation. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS

Hatchery reopens to public

Boatyard business booming
WRANGELL - The closure of a boatyard in Sitka has proven to be good business for Wrangell's Marine Service Center. The Center says haul-out requests have jumped about 30 percent over normal. THE WRANGELL SENTINEL

SITKA - Police responded to a report of a car being driven erratically. They pulled over the car on Price Street and the occupants ran off. They were caught and turned out to be 14. THE DAILY SITKA SENTINEL
Man helps find ship
JUNEAU - A former Juneau man was involved in the expedition that found Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship, the Endurance, off Antarctica recently. Michael Patz, who grew up in Juneau, was a helicopter mechanic on the expedition. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Summer training theater returns
HAINES - The Lynn Canal Players will hold its Summer Youth Theater Conservatory in July. The theater training programs was cancelled the past two years because of COVID 19. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS
Lots of small ships coming
PETERSBURG - The community is expecting to see more cruise passenger this year with more than 100 visits by small cruise ships. The 100 visits could bring a total of 11,000 visitors. THE PETERSBURG PILOT

HAINES - The Planning Commission has come down on the side of commercial events in Mud Bay. A group of area residents had asked the Borough Assembly to limit events, such as weddings and other gatherings, in the area and the assembly sent the issue to the commission.
