School wins $15,000
WRANGELL – Wrangell High School students finished in the top five nationally in Vans Custom Culture nationwide art contest. Several hundred schools competed and the top five finish brought Wrangell a $15,000 prize. THE WRANGELL SENTINEL
Biker raises awareness
HAIDA GWAII - Frank Sapach is on the road again. A decade ago, the now 70-year-old Haida Gwaii resident biked across Canada with his dog Sheila to raise awareness for abused and homeless pets. Now, he is on the road with a different dog, Samantha, to raise awareness for elder abuse and the challenges they face dealing with the medical system. THE HAIDA GWAII OBSERVER
Refugee fundraisers nets $20,000
PRINCE RUPERT -The Rupert Society Refugee Support group is halfway to its goal of raising $50,000 to help Ukrainians resettle in Prince Rupert. Lucas sets school record
PETERSBURG – Uriah Lucas etched his name into Petersburg High School history recently. Not only did he recently win the 3200 meter race in the Capital City Invitational, but he set the school record time of 10 minutes, 12.46 seconds. THE PETERSBURG PILOT
Local doctor gets provincial award

Property taxes rise

Flagpole added
KITIMAT - A fourth flagpole will be erected at the District Offices to make it easier to handle flag flying requests in the future. Currently there are poles for the Canadian, BC and District flags but - for example - a request to fly the Ukrainian flag was recently approved by the council and the District flag had to temporarily come down. Rover cleans ocean floor
PRINCE RUPERT - The ocean floor near Prince Rupert got a bit of a cleaning this spring. Nearly 1,400 pounds of fishing gear such as lost nets and traps were collected from the bottom by a

Drive by shooting probed
TERRACE - The RCMP is investigating a drive-by shooting last week on Pear Street. The man's wounds are not life threatening and the Mounties say the shooting is connected to an earlier altercation near the Terrace Inn Liquor Store. THE TERRACE STANDARD

Zoning changes proposed
