Hospital finalists named
JUNEAU
- There are three finalists to be the new CEO at Bartlett Memorial
Hospital. They are Emily Dilley of Lakin, Kansas; Matthew Heyn of Delta,
Colorado; and Jeffrey Hudson-Covolo of Porterville, California. They

Library celebrates centennial
PRINCE RUPERT - The Public Library celebrated its 100th birthday
late in May. Prior to its establishment in 1922, the community had a

Boro bans Mud Bay events
HAINES
- The long running saga of commercial "events" in Mud Bay took another
turn last week as the Borough Assembly voted 4-2 to ban future large
scale commercial events. Previously, the assembly had voted to require
conditional use permits for events such as weddings in the area, but in
light of continued neighborhood opposition reversed course. THE CHILKAT

- A caller reported that his neighbor's rabbit keeps getting in his
yard. Officers told the neighbor to keep the rabbit at home. THE DAILY

Game officer bags robber
SMITHERS
- A local conservation officer chased down and caught a suspect in a
robbery of the Salt Boutique last week. Officers say the man used a
knife to rob the store and that money was falling out of his pockets as

Hospital gets state money
PETERSBURG
- The state legislature has approved $20 million for a new Petersburg
Medical Center. The Center previously received an $8 million grant from

Longtime administrators retire
WRANGELL
- The school district is losing 60 years in experience as two long-time
assistant principals retire. Both Bob Davis, of Wrangell High School
and Jenn Miller-Yancey of Evergreen Elementary have been teaching or

Home invasion probed
TERRACE
- The RCMP is investigating a home invasion last week in Thornhill.
Police say that three men broke into a home, assaulted the occupants,
and took several items. They believe the attack was targeted and not

Kayakers rescued
JUNEAU
- A Coast Guard 45-footer rescued two kayakers near Auke Bay last
weekend. The kayakers reported they were taking on water near Spuhn

New RCMP head
PRINCE
RUPERT - The new RCMP officer in charge of the Prince Rupert detachment
has a connection to the community. Sgt. Gerald Walker's mother was born

Buildings on endangered list
HAINES
- The Eldred Rock Lighthouse and the Fort Seward Hospital Building are
on the 2022 Alaska's Most Endangered Historic Properties list. Both are
currently undergoing renovation. The list has been compiled by

Liberty heads to Valdez
JUNEAU
- A familiar ship is leaving the local waterfront. After 33 years in
the Capital City, the Coast Guard Cutter Liberty is being transferred to
Valdez this month. The 110-foot Liberty came to Juneau in 1989, shortly
after it joined the USCG fleet. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Hillsides unstable
WHITEHORSE
- Two more mudslides have cut off roads in the community. Officials say
that "escarpment instability" is a problem in the community because of
the melting of last winters record-breaking snowfall. THE WHITEHORSE

New music fest director
SITKA
- Alexander Serio has been named the music director for the Sitka Music
Festival. Serio, a trumpet player, is the director of the Wynnefield
Branch of the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and the founder of
