Traffic fatals investigated
JUNEAU
- Police are investigating three serious traffic accidents that have
occurred in the last few weeks. This week, a 59-year-old woman was
struck by a car and killed while crossing Egan Drive. In late June, a
48-year old man riding a motorcycle was struck by a bus and killed
downtown and a 13-year-old girl riding a bike was struck and seriously
injured by a car near Gold Creek. THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Lightning blamed for fires
WHITEHORSE
- Yukon fire resources were stretched thin last week, when more than 20
fires broke out within 24 hours. Officials say that the fires were

Gang members charged with assault
PRINCE
RUPERT - Assault charges have been filed against five members of a
group allegedly calling itself the Crazy Indian Nomads gang. The charges
stem from an incident where a man was assaulted in April. THE PRINCE

Low school enrollment troubling
KLUKWAN
- Low enrollment at the Klukwan School remains a concern. Officials at
the Chatham School District say they are looking at ways to boost
enrollment to keep it above the cutoff line for state funding. THE

- A man was reported wearing only a hat, shoes and underwear on Lincoln

Slide victim remembered
HAINES
- More than 100 friends and family members of the late David Simmons
gathered in Haines last week to celebrate his life. Simmons died in
December 2020, when a landslide destroyed his home on Beach Road. THE

Beaver dam failure wipes out road
WHITEHORSE
- Officials say it will take up to two months to repair the Alaska
Highway, which was washed out near Watson Lake after a large beaver dam

Fire boss retires
PETERSBURG
- Fire and EMS Director Sandy Dixon is retiring. Dixon has led the
volunteer fire department for the past 14 years. THE PETERSBURG PILOT
Mt Roberts run returns
JUNEAU
- Seth Rutt was the winner last week of the first Goldbelt Tram Mount
Roberts Trail Run held in person since 2019. Rutt finished the 3.5-mile

RCMP responds to suicide report
WILLIAMS
LAKE - RCMP cordoned off a section of Smedley Street last week as they
attempted to negotiate with a man in a home who was threatening
self-harm. Unfortunately, the man had already killed himself when

Seaplane ramp project gets funds
HAIDA GWAII - Masset and Old Masset will receive nearly $1 million in federal grant money for three local projects. The largest of the three is a $540,000 replacement of a seaplane float and access ramp in Masset Harbor. THE HAIDA GWAII OBSERVER
Housing density boosted
QUEEN CHARLOTTE - The town council has approved a bylaw change that will allow multi-family zoned lots to have two buildings per lot. The council hopes the change will address the community's chronic housing shortage. THE HAIDA GWAII OBSERVER
WRANGELL
- No one wants the old Wrangell Hospital building, at least not at the
$800,000 asking price. Borough officials say that no bids were received
in the month the building was available for bid. Next up is an

Triathlon cramps hotel market
JUNEAU
- If you are planning to visit Juneau this summer and need a hotel
room, good luck. Officials say that most rooms are already booked,
expecially for August when Juneau will host Alaska's first Ironman
