burning down last week. Officials say that a kitchen fire at the West
End Restaurant was knocked down in a matter of minutes, preventing it

HAINES - Catie Kirby has resigned
her seat on the borough assembly. That leaves three seats open for the

Crime high on the islands
MASSETT - The local RCMP
detachment reports that the communities of Massett, Old Massett and Port
Clements have the 12th highest crime severity rate in the province. The
good news is that the local rate has dropped nearly 3 percent in the

Fiber optic grant approved
CRAIG - AP&T has received a
$29 million federal grant to expand fiber optic connectively on Prince
of Wales Island. Craig, Klawock and Hollis will initially receive the

Lester Center booked
PRINCE RUPERT - The Lester Center
is looking at its first full season since the start of the COVID 19
pandemic. So far, 15 performances ranging from music to ballet to

Arson charge in house fire
JUNEAU - A 28-year-old woman has
been charged with first degree arson after a structure fire on La
Perouse Avenue last week. Officials say the most recent fire does not

Delegation seeks pole repatriation
PRINCE RUPERT - A Nisga'a
delegation is going to Scotland to discuss the return of a memorial pole
that was taken out of the Nass Valley in 1929. The delegation will meet
with officials from the National Museum of Scotland where the pole

Gary McWIlliams who died in June at 79. Besides being the owner of Stone
Arts of Alaska, he was a published author of books about minerals and

Wolf-dog pups rescued
HAINES - A Colorado organization
has rescued six suspected wolf-dog puppies that were born in February.
The dogs will go to sanctuaries in the lower 48. They are illegal to

PETERSBURG - It's bear season in
Little Norway. Officers responded to 30 calls involving bears in one

SITKA - Police received several
reports of a woman walking a dog and flipping off drivers near Indian
River Road. Officers talked to the woman, who said she would restrain
