Petersburg is one of several towns that began allowing ATVs and four-wheelers on city streets following a change in state law earlier this year. The pole specifically honors Judylee Guthrie of Hydaburg, who was murdered in 2016. The pole was erected near the place Guthrie's body was found. Officials say that past property assessments have been inconsistent, so it is time to reevaluate all commercial and residential property in the area. Ben Autman-Moore, Eric Holle, Margarette Jones, Bill Jurewitz, Jerry Lapp and Gabe Thomas are the October 4 ballot. The group has launched an effort to repeal the current cap on taxes the facility pays the community.
