Voters face dock bond
SKAGWAY - Voters will decide in
October whether to approve up to $65 million in bonds to replace the
aging Ore Dock. Officials say the improvements will allow the dock to
continue to have industrial uses, but also service the cruise industry.

Visitor dies in crash
HAINES - Police say a visitor to
the community was killed in a motorcycle crash earlier this month near
Mile 2 of the Haines. Officials did not name the woman or say what
community she was from, only that she was not a local resident. THE

Municipal employees get raise
SKAGWAY - The borough assembly has
voted to offer all municipal employees a $5 an hour pay boost.
Officials say that the increases will cost the municipality $500,000 a
year, but that higher salaries elsewhere have cost significant recent

Heimlich saves boy on plane
HAINES - Haines resident Jerry
Fredrickson has had his CPR card since he was teenager in Ketchikan. He
put his skills to use on a recent Alaska Airlines flight to Juneau when a
young boy next to him began choking on an ice cube. Airline officials
say Frederickson used the Heimlich Maneuver to dislodge three pieces of

PRINCE RUPERT - Four people are
vying to replace Lee Brain as mayor. Brain, the youngest mayor in city
history when he was elected six years ago is not running. Crystopher
