Dock agreement reached
SKAGWAY
- The municipality has reached an agreement with the White Pass Railway
over the disposition of the Ore Dock. A 55-year lease is expiring in
March and the borough has agreed to not hold the company responsible for
an expected additional $15 million in environmental cleanup at the
site. The company will transfer all the tideland improvements it has
made, estimated at $40 million, to the community at no additional cost.

Spooky time!
PETERSBURG
- Halloween was a bit darker and spookier than normal this year. A
landslide hit power lines near 5.5 Mile Mitkof Highway shutting off the
power at the height of trick or treating around 4:30 pm. There were no
injuries and no other damage beside the power lines and the highway. THE

Housing development planned
PRINCE
RUPERT - The city is considering selling land in Seal Cove for a
housing development. The initial development could create 75 homes. The
maximum size for the area would be around 300 homes. THE PRINCE RUPERT

EPA: Disinfect wastewater
HAINES
- The community will have to add to disinfection to its wastewater
discharges. The EPA is giving Haines five years to comply. Cost is

Concert to be live this year
CRAIG
- The emergency services Christmas fundraising concert will be live
again this year for the first time in two years. The event will take
place at the Craig High School Auditorium on Dec. 11.
Natural foods market closes

HAIDA
GWAII - The Haida Gwaii Islanders won a match for the first time at the
recent Old Timers Hockey Association tournament in Prince Rupert. In
fact, they won all three of the games they played. One player likened it

Honor fest brings raves
HAINES - More than 100 students from Southeast took part in the recent Southeast Alaska Music Honor Festival. It was the first honor fest to take place in Haines since 2016. THE CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS
Threat locks down hospital
PRINCE
RUPERT - The hospital was locked down last week and a 51-year-old man
was briefly detained after he allegedly made threats against health care

- Residents are remember John Tullis who died recently at 99. Tullis
lives in Wrangell for 30 years and was a real estate broker. THE

Bike relay to return
HAINES
- The Kluane to Chilkat International Bike Relay will return next
summer. It will be the first time the 148-mile race has been held since

Motorists warned of highway blockages
PRINCE
RUPERT - Rockslides and flooding continue to plague Highway 16 between
Prince Rupert and Terrace. Motorists are warned to drive carefully in

Former Forester remembered
JUNEAU
- Residents are planting trees in memory of John Sandor who died
recently in Sitka at the age of 95. Sandor was a longtime Forest Service
employee and retired as the SE Regional Forester and also served as the
Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.

More housing on the way

EDWARD - Remediation is continuing on an Alder Avenue site for a small
housing development. A timetable for the 11 new homes has yet to be
