RUPERT - Global Ports Holding has signed a 10-year agreement with the
Prince Rupert Port Authority to manage cruise ship services in Prince
Rupert. The agreement comes with a 10-year extension option. It is GPH's

Masked robber nabbed
TERRACE -
Wearing a Halloween skeleton mask did not help disguise a man who robbed
a liquor store on Lakelse Avenue last week. The man used a knife to
threaten staff and take several bottles of liquor. He was apprehended

Problem bear killed
SKAGWAY - A
problem black bear was killed earlier this month after causing numerous
breakins and damage in Dyea. At one point the bear destroyed the inside

Audit: District was deficient
JUNEAU - An
independent audit of the Juneau School District has found that a
$620,000 shortfall was caused by the district not following its own
procedures and not making adjustments when revenue was less than

Toxins close shellfishing
KITIMAT -
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has closed most of the area
around Kitimat, Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii to bivalve shellfish

Natural causes in mountaineer death
SITKA -
Officials say that Mike Motti, 76, apparently died on natural causes
while hiking on Mount Verstovia earlier this week. Motti was a long-time
member of the Sitka search and rescue team and climbed Verstovia

Local Olympian's art to go to Berlin
SMITHERS -
Local Special Olympian Torben Schuffert is one of four Canadians who
will present projects of their own creation, at the World Athlete
Congress in Berlin, Germany next summer during the Special Olympics
Summer World Games. Schuffert's project will combine both art and music.

Woman injured in jet boat crash
HAINES - A
local woman is recovering after being seriously injured in a jet boat
crash on the upper Chilkat River. Nicole Holm and her family were
traveling towards moose hunting camp when underwater debris caused the

Mill remediation earns national honor

Cruise passenger numbers could drop by 40 percent

The borough assembly is considering a property tax increase to boost
school funding. Sales taxes are also expected to be down next year
because landslide damage to cruise ship docks could cut visitation by up

No Winter Games for Yukon
WHITEHORSE -
The Yukon Territory announced last week than it is ending its efforts
to host the Canadian WInter Games in 2027. The games are expected to
cost at least $160M to put on and the Yukon has only received $25M in
