Mine worker dies
TERRACE
- A worker at the Brucejack Mine has died in a work accident, officials
say. Mine operations have been suspended while the death is

Fireworks rules not a blast
PORT
EDWARD - A new community fireworks ordinance is causing discussion. A
request to hold a Halloween fireworks show was denied because the
proposer did not seek a permit 30 days before the event as required. THE

Flooding damages Chilkoot Trail
SKAGWAY
- Heavy flooding has caused the closure of the Dyea Flats Road. The
flooding has also damaged the Chilkoot Trail, including washing out at

Hiker rescued
PETERSBURG
- A hiker was found in the woods near the Mitkof HIghway after a
two-day search last week. Officials said the 30-year-old hiker was not a

Housing prices jump
WHITEHORSE
- Housing prices continue to soar. The average house price in
Whitehorse is $710,000, up $44,000 from 2021. THE WHITEHORSE DAILY STAR
Dugout canoe launched
ANGOON
- The first dugout canoe has been built and launched in Angoon in 140
years. In 1881, the US Navy bombarded Angoon destroying all the village

Local wins tourney
PRINCE
RUPERT - Badminton ace Phat Tran was undefeated at the recent Nanaimo
Open and Masters Tournament. Tran was one of five Prince Ruperts players

Superintendent to step down
JUNEAU
- School Superintendent Bridget Weiss is stepping down next June. Weiss
has been superintendent since 2018. She was Alaska Superintendent of
the Year in 2022.
Sawmill cuts operations
TERRACE - Skeena Sawmills is cutting production to 50 percent for the time being. Officials say the current high costs of logging is leading to log shortages. THE TERRACE STANDARD
Fire logs start fire

Flooding causes road issues
TERRACE
- Drivers on Highway 16 are advised to be aware recent rainstorms have
left standing water on the highway at several locations. The RCMP

Electric school bus coming
WRANGELL - The school district has received a $395,000 federal grant to purchase an electric school bus. THE WRANGELL SENTINEL
Historic equipment found
WHITEHORSE
- A stash of historic camera and mountaineering equipment has been
found on the remote Walsh Glacier in Kluane Park. The equipment was left
in 1937 by famed mountaineers Bradford Washington and Robert Bates as
they attempted to escape the mountains after an ill-fated climb. THE
