Skate competition returns
PRINCE
RUPERT -The Kla How Ya figure skating competition was held last week at
the Ciccone ice rink for the first time in seven years. Skaters from
Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Terrace, Smithers, Quesnel and Fort St. John

Nativity scene cancelled
TERRACE -
The Knights of Columbus says it hopes the city of Terrace will change
its mind regarding a nativity scene that has been on the roof of city
hall for years. The city recently told the group that the scene could
not be erected based on a 2015 Canadian Supreme Court decision. THE

Seafood plant to stay closed
HAINES -
The biggest fish processing plant in the borough will remain closed for
another season. Ocean Beauty has announced that its Excursion Inlet
cannery will remain closed in 2023. It was closed in 2021 because of low

Moose burgers distributed
PETERSBURG -
More than 1,748 pounds of moose burger meat was distributed to local
social service groups. The meat had been confiscated from hunters who

Downtown bathrooms planned
WRANGELL -
The borough is planning to install public restrooms downtown next
spring. The mobil trailer facility will have four stalls and sinks. THE

Mountie shooting investigated
WHITEHORSE -
The RCMP is investigating an "officer involved" shooting death that
took place last week. The shooting was at the Air North hangar on Condor

Avian flu has landed
SITKA -
Officials say that avian flu is appearing in the area again. The flu -
which has no effect on humans - was noted amongst the area raptor

Fast worker!
HAINES -
Police say that an employee of Haines Mountain Guides has been charged
with stealing more than $50,000 from the company, Haines' largest tour

Resident's remains into space
PETERSBURG -
Resident Pat Murray died in 2020, but he's still traveling. Last week,
some of Murray's remains were sent into space on a Spaceloft XL Rocket
